What are you intending to achieve? Is this a server machine on a network,
a standalone machine with internet connection, or just standalone?

Something to try is to run /usr/bin/netcfg. Run it, see what it
does (!). I've never used RedHat 5.X before, so I can't tell you how
advanced it will be, but I would suggest that it will pretty much sort
everything out for you.

Otherwise, come back and tell us exactly how you're trying to set it up,
and we can probably fish out the relevant ifconfig commands. Less user
friendly though, I'm afraid.

On another note, DiskDruid (for Chris Lamb) - I believe the current RedHat
(5.9 Starbuck onwards) has 'Workstation' and 'Server' installation
personalities - these format the disk and partition it into something
sensible for you. One drawback is that it won't tolerate Windows on a dual
boot system, which is unfortuanate.

Cheers,

Alex.
