I used xfstt on RH5.1 and it was OK but I have been much more impressed
with xfs that comes as standard with RH6. In particular, fonts like webdings
which I couldn't get to work with xfstt seem to work fine with xfs. Further it
is easy to install ttfonts into xfs.
So if the original poster can find a RH5.2 rpm for xfs I would really recommend
it. (Danger Will Robinson! The RH6.0 rpm for xfs will be glibc2.1 based and I
guess will not work on RH5.2). I haven't tried compiling it myself so I can't
say whether it's easy or not. No reason to think not.
This is what you have to do to add true type fonts to xfs (found on
usenet--edited for correctness).
Put all your truetype fonts (or symbolic links to them) in one directory.
The xfs config file is /etc/X11/fs/config. Add your truetype directory
to the catalogue, in this file. cd to the directory where your ttfonts are and
run:
/usr/sbin/ttmkfdir -o fonts.dir
Now do:
ln -s fonts.dir fonts.scale.
Finally, restart xfs with:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart
