Subject: The Newbie meeting / InstallFest / Dec meeting

WARNING: you are being asked to volunteer :-)

Hi all,

Ok I'm getting down to some planning. Let me sketch what we have so far.
I've set the Reply-To: field to wylug-advocacy [at] scs.leeds.ac.uk so that
we don't bore everybody with planning trivia. If you are coming onboard to
help, then maybe you should be on the wylug-advocacy list. Let me know if
you want to be added.

I do need to get an quick indication of who will be helping, especially
with the installfest. There's no way I'm doing it on my own :-) Though I
am happy to do all the co-ordination etc. I would like to discuss some of
this stuff at the Oct. meeting and in the pub afterwards as well.

Mon November 8th What is Linux?

An introduction session for people coming to Linux for the first time.

Smylers has agreed to do and Intro talk (and demo?)
How long were you thinking of smylers?

Mike Banahan has agreed to do an X demo and chat

If these 2 are 20-30mins each we need another Newbie topic and speaker
any ideas comments?

I would envisage we could also have several machines setup for people to
have a go on. Would anyone be willing to bring along a laptop to show it
will work of these beasts?

Sat November 20th The InstallFest

I suggest it runs from 1pm - 5pm or is that too long?

Here I really really REALLY need people to commit themselves.
Even if you are not confident to do installations, your presence will
be useful, to chat to people, help setup, etc.

Can you come on the day? ___________

Can you bring/supply any uptodate dists? ___________

and which dists? ___________

Will you be willing to do installations? ___________

if so are knowledgable about h/w ___________

Can you help by distributing publicity
before the event? ___________

Can you volunteer to do anything else?

I hope to have some leaflets/posters ready for the October 11th meeting
If any one wants to help do the poster(s)/leaflets then let me know PDQ
I'll give you the essential info to go on.

I'm contacting a few places to see if they will sponsor the event.
If anyone has any UK Linux dealers I could approach, then let me have
their email address.

Mon December 13th The follow-up meeting to the installfest

I thought we could have some introductory sys-admin stuff for first
timers users. Any volunteers or other suggestions? Another possibility is
to just have a QA panel session and let people bring their problems. We
can of course do both.
