Linux Answers
I found my copy of Linux Answers at WH Smiths on 30/10/99, and first
impressions were mixed to say the least. For a start, I wasn't too keen
on paying £5 for a magazine with only 82 pages, but ho-hum I got one
anyway.
This magazine is DEFINITELY aimed at the newbie and a little more
advanced (or at least this issue is). The majority of the magazine is
purely describing how to install Red Hat 6.0, which although useful to
many, seems a little excessive for those who have already got running
systems, and want to delve a little (or a lot) deeper.
There are some tutorials aimed at various levels, from drawing with
GIMP, command line syntax, to upgrading your kernel.
Generally, it has a lot of potential. If you manage to find one, don't
forget to send in the reply card at the back. The overall finished
product could do with a little more polish, for instance on several
occasions references to software on the CD were in completely different
places, and mostly referred to none existent directories or files.
As a final word, I'd say buy the mag, and send in your comments. It's
the only way were going to get a magazine which covers everyones needs.
