Bad magic refers to the magic number, a checksum of sorts. It's cpio
saying, This archive is invalid. What the hell cpio is doing with an
RPM, I don't know. Now, I *know* the archive *is* valid, because I
installed SO5.1 off the PC+ Dec. CD just two hours ago, and it works ;))
So, you've either got a dodgy CD, dodgy CD drive or a dodgy setup.
You say you tried the command line? You tried rpm -i [rpmfile] ? That's
what I did, and it worked for me.
You could try copying it to the harddrive first, to make sure it's not a
cd read error.
