Printers that support Postscript cost an extra 50,000-100,000 yen
(typically PS comes bundled with other features like LAN support,
DHCP, faster print rate, etc to justify that high end differential)
over here, that'd be about 475-950 euros (sorry dunno the pound
exchange rate offhand). It's probably cheaper when you don't need
Japanese fonts, but still I bet Postscript support would double the
price of most cheap printers.
Why pay the freight when Magicfilter+Ghostscript does it transparently
and for free?
I'm up to my ass in school work right now (exams to grade etc), so I
won't be able to get to it before next week at the earliest (and
that's assuming the inflow stops :( ). But you oughtta look at the
Ghostscript docs, and then at the sources (especially devs.mak) to see
just what is supported. If you can get that to work then you just
configure all your software to print to Postscript.
You might also want to check on recent betas of the uniprint driver
for Ghostscript; uniprint is a universal driver configurable via
tables mapping features to control sequences. New tables and
improvements to old tables come out regularly. A real wizard might
even be able to whip up a config--although I've noticed that few
printers include their driver languages in appendices to the user
manual any more, just setup instructions that take four pages to
teach:
1. remove plastic protective widgets from each end of data cable
2. find data connectors on printer and computer
3. plug data cable into printer and computer
4. plug power cable into outlet
