Help Please

Ian

This probably won't help much but I'll try anyway....

In MS Windows 98 open up settings > control panel then click on
network. When the network GUI comes up look for the line that says
something about TCP/IP network card or something like that. Then
click properties. Under properties select IP Address dial in your IP
Address which might be 192.168.0.98 (1 below the address on your
linux box - for example). Subnet mask 255.255.255.0. If you want
WINS configuration you can (if you want to) add 192.168.0.255. If
you want to use gateway put in whatever it is for your linux box
(192.168.0.99 ?? ). If you wan to use DNS configuration then host
is your Red Hat machine and the domain is whatever it is.

If this doesn't work then try the samba config once again. Type man
swat into a terminal window and READ IT. You need to remove the #
thingy from somewhere in /etc/inetd.conf and etc/services.

After you've edited the file type ps ax | grep inetd. And find the
number of the inetd process. Then do kill -1 679 or whatever the
number of the process is. Then open Netscape and type into the slot
at the top (where the URLs go) http://localhost:901 and press
return. You will then see two slots in the middle of the screen
asking for the word root and your password. When you put those in
you'll get the Samba GUI. This part is really headbanging and it
took me weeks to understand it. You have to produce a Samba config
here.

If you aren't too sure see.....

http://www.sheflug.co.uk/suse.htm

and look for a link to network config. The instructions there
aren't up to date but they do work.

Let me know when you've kicked the cat and strangled the wife and
I'll come round and clear up the mess ?

Thanks
