Platform?

Hi All,
I have just been having a conversation with a friend about Linux, can
you clear up a the following point ?
If you are using an 86K based system and say a ppc or Alfa based
system can you run say Wordperfect on both or all systems or do you require a
different version of the program for each cpu platform?
