SuSE installation problems

Hello all.

Many thanks to Robert and Paul for your suggestions on curing the SuSE6.3
problems I was having. All three are solved and this is what I have done.

1) Keyboard changed from English to German during installation:
Yast2 would not change it back to English, (or as far as I could tell, to
anything other than the German one); so I used SAX and that changed it with
no difficulty.

2) Monitor resolution:
Changed from 640x480 to 800x600 with XF86Setup.

3) Having to use a boot disk although Linux is on its own hard drive:
The error message about not finding any active partition and needing a
system disk, occurred before LILO started to boot. If I do an Automatic
Installation, I am not asked where to put LILO. If I do a Guided
Installation, I am, and set it to be installed in the MBR. Either method it
wouldn't boot from the hard disk. I have done a lot of experimenting and
have found that if I go into YAST-SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION-BOOT CONFIG, the
settings are shown there correctly, with LILO in the MBR, although it
doesn't work. If I then press CONTINUE, LILO is apparently now saved
correctly into the MBR, because on re-booting, Linux boots from the hard
drive with no error message. I've no idea if that is what I should have
done, but it worked. I hope this explanation is not too confusing.

At the moment, my Linux is working.

A very Happy Christmas to you all.

Very best wishes.

Keith
