ManLUG Meeting 18 December
Hi Folks,
ManLUG people gathered, usual place and usual time, on Saturday
for an informal 'contact' occasion. About 20 turned up, including
some new[ish] to Linux who had responded to the suggestion that they
would find help and discussion.
As well as whatever took place in assorted conversations, installation
help-outs, etc., the occasion was noteworthy in a couple of special
respects.
John 'Multimedia' Heaton started off with his new Janet Cache Monitor
running in the background, which was a bit like watching stick insects
at play (though based on a notable achievement whereby the Cache now
benefits from extra Linux-based resources). Then, toward the end of the
afternoon, he pulled a 'Simpsons' film off the Internet -- Richard
Nixon vs the Robot -- which really did entertain the watchers.
Meanwhile, James Youngman and Dave Gilbert gave a virtuoso keyboard
performance, on someone's PC where the hard drive's MBR had inadvertently
been over-written. It went on for a long time, and the outcome was unclear
to yours truly, though the participants seemed happy with it.
And those who turned up seemed very happy with the meeting generally.
It has been suggested that an unstructured informal get-together
like this, with exchange of info and ideas, should happen fairly
regularly. This time, it certainly brought in a few Linux folk who,
perhaps, might have felt they were not yet ready for some of the
more formal presentations we have been putting on.
Best wishes to all,
Ted.
