It is. Consider who the traditional Linux customers are. Windows
transplants are newcomers, and given the money price, they'll pay in
time lags.
It won't be cheap in resources used, and the less people are willing
to pay the longer it will take, but the user-friendly Linux desktop is
already clearly on its way.
What is really required is a few shops and mail-order firms to see a
market opportunity in Linux-ready systems. (VA Linux's market
valuation is ridiculous, but remember they are the first and presently
only---some foolish day-traders equate that to monopoly. This
market will explode over the next few months, I think.) Once that is
in place, suddenly printer manufacturers (among other peripheral mfrs)
will fall over themselves to provide Linux drivers, and it'll be an
interesting horse race.
