Unix software

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what has to be done to get Unix programs to run on Linux?
I kind of got the inpression that any unix stuff could be made to work but
the few programs I've tried up to now have not co-operated. Needless to say
I know little about Linux and so much of this is fumbling in the smoke!
Anyway, I've just downloaded a couple of progs to try to pacify 'she who
must be obeyed' - scrabble and Countdown games which are both written as
shareware for Unix and it would be good if I could get them running. The
machine I want to put them on is a P100 running Redhat 5.2 kernel 2.0.36 -
