bloody newbies!!!!!

hello there!

im totaly new to linux and would like to ask a question that i am sure will
totally stretch your combined intellects (or perhaps not as the case may be)

firstly im learning linux from 'redhat for dummies' (yup im a dummy) and the
book is called 'redhat 6.1 for dummies' but errrr it wasnt written for 6.1.
let me explain....

i have previously tried to install linux - version 6.0 from the cover disk
of linux answers and after a few problems with the installation, (mainly coz
i already had <gasp, shock, horror, etc> NT and win98 installed on seperate
partitions and FIPS crashed half way through (when it got to the NTFS
partition i presume???) and pretty much left me to reinstall everything), i
did manage to get everything pretty much up and running except my modem coz
its a rockwell crapy thing and the monitor (a belinia)

the screenshots from the book i have (and the installation instructions) are
for this version (6.0) of redhat!!! they have obviously just chose to change
the title of the book and include the latest redhat version (6.1) without
updating any of the content.

now this has cause me some minor hassles. first of all the installation on
6.1 is very very different from 6.0 (better!) its much more kinda windoze
esque in that it prompts for answers and seems to have some intelligence
when looking for hardware (it found my graphics card and monitor without me
having to do a thing)

but like i said its totally different... my problems lie in 2 main parts...

the first is that it asks you which GUI you want to install and only
installs part of it (i chose kde) but been totally new i want to play with
everything but the new installer only seems to install the basics and doesnt
install gnome too (as version 6.0 did). how do install everything???

secondly: in the old installer it asked me for my printer (epson440) and had
it in the list, with 6.1 it never even asked me if i had a printer! how the
hell do i get my printer working????

well - sorry for asking such stoopid questions but ive looked through the
book, redhat website etc etc and im still flumoxed. could any one help?

also when do you have meetings, perhaps you could find it in your valueable
time to show a 'dummy' how this whole thing works??? or perhaps someone with
a laptop would be up for me buying them a drink in one of sheffield's fine
pubs (make you look all tech'y too!) then you can show me!

i just thought of one last question: is it always neccessary to mount the cd
rom? or can that be done with a linux equivalent of autoexec???

(ok i lied about that being the last question coz i just thought of another)
are there any good graphical web site design packages available for linux
like dreamweaver3?? and yes before smartarse says it i know about raw html
but im too lazy :o)

thanks for your valuable time

kent
