Re: SuSE boot problems

Hello again.

Thanks for the ideas as to why I am having SuSE boot problems.

I only bought the hard drive and caddy at the beginning of December from
Insight at Worksop, so it is a new one and the same make as the other one. I
only have the two hard drives and one computer.

I always close Linux down either by typing shutdown -h now or logging off
and waiting for it to shut down properly, then switching off and waiting
several seconds to make sure the hard drive has stopped spinning.

When it first began to not finish booting, the line where it usually stopped
was: Kernel Panic. VFS error. (I think it went on to say that the VFS was
not mounted). I hope that makes sense to someone, it doesn't mean a thing to
me!

I did some more tests yesterday and spent the day installing SuSE in various
ways.

1) Version 6.3 with YAST2 always gave the Not found any [active partition]
in HDD error when restarting the computer. So after installing it, I looked
at what fdisk (via YAST) was showing.
