Well I'm back in Linux Land! This has been a useful exercise. The
failing was mine. I'd edited my rc.local with a line as part of a series
of ammendments to try and help me get true type fonts working. This
clearly caused the problem. I ran up linux single and got a prompt and
ran vi on the script and commented out the offending line. A quick
shutdown -r now and I was back in action!

So, even though it was my fault - a check in a book and a clear process
that can be mapped and fixed, and I'm back. If it had been windows I'd
be reinstalling...

I still don't seem to have true type fonts working - is xfs doing the
job for me? Probably not. I had decided to upgrade my memory to run
StarOffice on my box. I'm on 32MB and intended to move up to 64 to make
it feasible. However my motherboard PA-2006 has a mix of 2 simms and 2
dimms. The simms are populated with 2 16MB simms. Can I get 1 32MB Dimm
to upgrade or do I have to throw away my current memory? I guess that's
going to depend on the motherboard?

I got my new win98 laptop today from work. Crashed twice already...
