It looks as if you've got some configuration problem. Maybe you
have ipchains or something so that packets coming from another hosts
might be rejected.

Short answer: NFS is what you want. That rpc message you get is
due to NFS behaviour. However, I'm short of time (and short of knowledge
in this area) so as to give a better explanation. May I suggest the NFS
Howto? I can't remember if it was cryptic or not, but I know that NFS is
a big subject.
Maybe somebody else can help...
