Re: Floppy boot

HI,

Thanks for all the advice . I realise that I should have specified my system
etc., sorry but I was rushing, trying to finish installing before the guests
for my daughter's 21st party turned up! Anyway, what I am doing is
installing RH6.1 on a clean Pentium 100 system - 32Mb RAM and 3.2Gb hard
drive - no windows or anything else. (do I still need a dos partition on the
drive?). I simply made an install diskette from the disk image on the CD and
set it going on 'automatic'. I have been messing around with this box for
over a week now trying to set it up with two hard drives and dual booting
into windows 98 and RH6.1 with no success - in fact, I was always getting
the same error on boot up and didn't recognise it as a problem with the hard
drive configuration. It was only when I went looking on the web for basic
linux tutorials that I cane across the advice on modifying the lilo.conf
file. The site also told me that if I did an 'fdisk /mbr' from a dos boot
disk before I installed linux, the error wouldn't occur! - more duff advice!

Anyway, I'll try adding the line into lilo.conf and try that.

Al: Wouldn't the advice you give in your reply (below) mean that I would
have to completely reinstall again? -is this the best way?
