As a linux newbie, one of the things that appeals to me about the OS is the 
ability to tweak it by using scripts and .conf files, irrespective of the 
fact that as yet, for the most part, I don't have the foggiest idea of what 
to tweak or how to tweak it. The "you don't need to know" culture of 
Micro$oft and Apple can make it difficult to set up your box the way you 
want it.
I for one, long for easy to read HOWTOs but the fact that LUGs like this 
one exist and the willingness of acknowledged experts to disseminate their 
knowledge to the uninitiated are a positive boon.

Many 'newbies' (maybe not the true 'Home Users') will be only too willing 
to twiddle with the settings given the confidence that comes with sound 
information.
