Debian 2.2 isn't out as of yet. Whenever it's out, I'll go and
burn some CDs. I'll let you know when that happens. The good thing about
debian is that you can copy it freely around: you don't need cheapbytes,
you just need a cd writer and an ethernet connection. But that applies
to most Linux distros these days :) For a guide on how this is
accomplished, check <http://cdimage.debian.org> (unsure whether this is
mirrored to the UK). One of the good things about this is that apart
from the distribution stuff, you can put extra stuff easily. Again, we'd
like to get the licensing terms right, as I'm not going to Old Bailey
for the sake of Star Office X-) I have some friends in Spain who are
providing some of the software people need to use for undergraduate
courses (such as AI programs and stuff like that). It'd be great to
include that in as well, but I'm aware of the difficulties involved in
this.
However, I think that whatever the distro, we should put some
docs together which are relevant to the audience that's going to be
buying this. This means access to the University's network (both in
terms of ethernet connection for those of use with desktops and over
RATS). I guess that we need to get all the "usual suspects" together and
iron out what we'd like to find if Linux CDs are provided.
Anyway, good to see people getting excited about this!
