Some shells also have this facility.  In Bash, if you set TMOUT to a 
positive value, then the shell will exit after waiting that many seconds 
for input.  In tcsh (and probably also csh, but I never liked that one), 
the autologout shell variable offers similar functionality (but it's 
measured in minutes, not seconds).  Users can override this, which may or 
may not be a good thing for your particular system.
