My experience of upgrading SuSE from 5.2 onwards is there are very few
problems - usually confined to the odd over-written config file in the
early days. I'd copy the /etc dir as safety net, keeping all your config
info safe. You might also like to backup your ./kde dirs in the home
directories.
Just boot from CD 2, choose Update System & off it trots. Keep feeding in
the CDs & it'll be happy :)
