To put things in to perspective.  I demo'ed an 8Mb ram 386dx40 linux box
X'ing doom to a nearby Xserver over 10meg ethernet and played the game at
reasonable speed, the same box was able to act as an apache webserver at the
same time as being a netware3.11 (mars_nwe) fileserver for 255 users.  And
you could still telnet in and vi files and compile stuff (although cc slowed
the doom game noticabley when ran).

I was extremely surprised to see win3.1 running winword2.0 on a 2meg laptop
quite usably.
