Are you using KDE for your window manager with Kppp ? The 1.1 version
of Kppp had a bug which was reproducible and did everything that you
are describing. Which distro are you using ? See also......

and look for stuff about connecting to an ISP. Zetnet will accept
CHAP as well as PAP. I use CHAP with Kisdn to connect to them. You
shouldn't have a problem with this ISP.
