fonts not scaling

hi,
i recently enquired about installing additional fonts for X.
i've been quite successful in installing a new font server (xfsft 1.1.6)
i've now got more that enough fonts to shake a stick at.....
trouble is, they are only available in 1 size!!! i can't get them to resize at
all. i can't find any referance to this problem.

anyone got any idea's
