Check /var/log/messages[1] - what is sendmail logging when you send a mail to 
the remote machine?

[1] or /var/adm/messages[2]
[2] or /var/log/maillog[3]
[3] or, you've guessed it, /var/adm/maillog[4]
[4] depending on how syslog is configured - see /etc/syslog.conf
