More on Fetchmail

Hello

I've got sendmail working in SuSE 6.4. Even sent some mail with Pine.
However, after configuring and testing fetchmail I find that it will
download mail with "fetchmail -v" but not when I connect.

To get sendmail to send mail I have the following script in
/etc/ppp/ip-up.......

># maybe you want to start mail services:
>
> /usr/bin/fetchmail -a -v /home/richard/.fetchmailrc
>>/var/log/fetchmail 2>&1 &
/usr/sbin/sendmail -q &

that's the bit at the bottom. As you can see fetchmail is configured to
download the mail with "home/richard/.fetchmailrc. But it doesn't
download mail with those syntax. How should I change this so that mail
is downloaded when I connect ? I have tried putting the .fetchmail
script into the ip-up script complete with passwords. That doesn't
work either. There's also a good risk of the passwords being spotted by
a cyber theif.

It's easy to find someone who can set up a mail system on a mailserver
but as soon as you want fetchmail for dialup no one knows what to do.

Thanks
