it's quite easy with 'Yast' to configure the logon to be graphical. start
'yast' goto system admin then goto configure logon. select graphical and that's
it :-) you may get a warning message about your pc not being able to boot if x
isn't configured correcrly but, since you use kde with startx it should all run
ok. this will also sort out the problem of shuting down incorrectly as when you
logout of kde, you will have a graphical option to shutdown or reboot (or
restart x?)
