Someone has already mentioned ntp in one thread of answers.  It's
worth noting that there is another way using adjtime, which is not
essentially based on network connections.  There should be a discussion
of this and of how it works in the manpage for hwclock, which
sets up this file and allows you to manage the clock if its drift
is more or less predictable.
