[Sheflug] Printer setup

I have setup my printer (several times now) in yast 2 it finds ny printer as
hp690c,correct but the driver it supplies is hpdj mono. By selecting this it
offers a choice I have selected hp 670c being the nearest and in staroffice
using generic driver all is well but if I try to print using kedit or if I try
to print an e-mail or web page I get a thousand pages of rubbish which starts
with the words "!ps adobe-1.0 EPSF.
So when I select "print I get the print dialogue which has on it 7 yes 7
drivers I won't spell them all out but the first default?? is labelled
hpdj a4 ascii mono locally conected aliases ascii,lp1
I have tried selecting each one in turn and all but one give me pages of
rubbish and an empty ink cartridge the other one gives perfect output in mono
or colour.
is this normal ie does one have to select the driver each time in Linux .
