thankfully this is an easy one. The Man page is your friend on this
occasion. There are a load of command line switches. executing 
wterm -tr will give you transparency. I have a dock icon with   

wterm -tr -fg white (to give white text as well.)

As for netscape 6 I can't help. But I run Mozilla M15 which is later I
think and it's still very ropey. It renders pages okay now ( mostly)
but is as stable as a 747 with 1 wing.

Window Maker is great isn't it. It's the reason I didn't give up on
Linux when I first installed.
