In Netscape look for  EDIT > Preferences > Advanced.  Select Automatic
proxy.

In Kmail look for settings and trawl around in there for a while.

Server assigned IP address
Server assigned name server addresses
Use IP Header Compression
Use Default Gateway

screaming.net dialup telephone number: 

0845 353 0121 

Calls to this number are free between 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday and
6pm Fridays to 8am Mondays once you become a
Localtel customer. 

Mail server settings: 

If you signed up on or before 16th June 1999 then server names are: 

Incoming mail (POP3) server pop3.screaming.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server smtp.screaming.net

If you signed up on or after 17th June 1999 then server names are: 

Incoming mail (POP3) server mail1.screaming.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server smtp.screaming.net

If you signed up on or after 21st December 1999 then server names are: 

Incoming mail (POP3) server mail2.screaming.net
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server smtp.screaming.net

News server settings 

NNTP address - news.screaming.net
