I don't particularly use software like that, but I know sound support
under Linux can be difficult at times. My personal setup (configured using
ALSA) works fine for me, but some 'standard' methods of checking whether
or not my system is setup don't pick up on that fact - for example, 'cat
/dev/sndstat' just results in 'file not found', which implies (on some
systems) that there is no sound card present, even though I have one which
is working and configured fine. It could be something like that? Try
looking in the manual page, or the help options - it could be that it does
some checks that you can disable, a kind of 'force' option.
