Assuming you're using Sendmail 8.8.x or 8.9.x, edit /etc/aliases and add

root: baz

and run newaliases (or sendmail -bi if newaliases doesn't exist on your 
system).  For Sendmail 8.10.x or 8.11.x, the file to edit is 
/etc/mail/aliases.  Doing this is one of the first things I do on any new 
system.  Root shouldn't be using things like Pine, Elm, or ($deity forbid) 
Nutscrape at all, ever.  Just MHO, of course :-)
