[Sheflug] Network Goes on Holiday
Dear All
Can anyone help me with this one ??
Matt and myself configured a network together for my own use at home.
Unfortunately he was in a bit of a rush and this somewhat messed up
his otherwise reliable methods for configuring things. Not like Matt
at all :-) What's gone wrong is that he's tried to configure routing
on my SuSE box as though it was a Debian box. Of course, this doesn't
work.
This morning I tried to change the network address for my SuSE box
from 192.168.0.99 to 192.168.1.2. The gateway address is
192.168.1.1. The more usual address for my SuSE box is 192.168.0.99
for eth0. After changing the address on the SuSE box I find that I
can't get back into the network to control my Debian box.
So, the Debian box goes up to the internet and the SuSE box connects
to it so that I can view web pages and send and receive e-mail.
/etc/route.conf looks like this.......
#Destination Dummy/Gateway Netmask Device
#
#Net devices
#
192.247.47.47 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 ippp0
192.168.0.99 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 eth0
#Gateway
#
default 192.168.1.1
#
If I do "ping 192.168.1.1" from the SuSE box I get "Network is
unreachable". If I do "/sbin/init.d/route stop" I get.......
"Error whilst executing:
/sbin/route del default gw 192.168.1.1
SIOCDELRT: no such process
Error while executing:
/sbin/route del -net 192.168.0.99 netmask 255.255.255.0 dev eth0
route: netmask doesn't match route address"
Anyone know what to do with this ? I can't get back into my network
with telnet or SSH or anything.
Thanks
