I don't really understand this ?? Why am I being asked to put the
same address into the SuSE box as is already in the Debian box.
Surely this will clash on the network ?
I've done as you said and netstat -r produces........
result of netstat -r.....
SuSE box

So, I now have three eth0 addresses on the SuSE box. What's the point
of that ?? Surely it can't work that way ???????
If I do ping 192.168.1.0 then the terminal window just locks up and
nothing else happens.
It *MUST_BE* that I don't need to put the same address into the SuSE
box for the same eth0 card ?????????????
