Same here, but even in the space of an hour I can get a few 'hits'.

Even if you do use ftp to download stuff, you can turn off the ftp
server on your machine.
Why are you running sendmail? It's way up on the list of things to kill
if you don't need it. If you need/want to run a mailserver, try qmail -
it was built with security in mind.
