Ah.
I seem to remember that it was once said (not here) that root's path should
only be /root or /bin, so every else has to a definite action - you have to
put in paths, as kind of a failsafe against user stupidity.
That seems a little too much of a pain for me.
So, rather than having /usr/local/whatever in roots path, is aliasing the
only real option?
I guess root doesn't really use that many non /bin or /sbin commands anyway..
