Oh, you do.  You just don't need to use a distro that's compulsive
about them, as long as everybody knows that there _is_ such a distro
out there.  Pretty darn close is quite good enough.

But all the majors have been tempted to do a little Microsoft "embrace
and extend" at one time or another.  Debian (and the other distros, of
course, but Debian has a lot of credibility here) keeps them honest.
