[Sheflug] GPM mouse support and crashes
Hi all,
First, if you use gpm, use the GPM mouse support to get the mouse going in
X. The smoothness of movement of the pointer is far better than raw X
support alone. Mail me if you want details, but it is worth it for the
improved responsiveness.
Anyhow, crashes. I have had several (lots) of random segfaults, X
restarts, failed compiles, disppearing apps, etc recently. At first I put
it down to faulty memory, but many a thorough memory test came up clean. I
slowed the CPU down this morning by 50MHz (10%) and it hasn't crashed
(yet).
However, I was wondering if anyone knew of any particular
incompatibilities I had missed. Here is my system spec:
K6-2/500 (running at 450 at the mo')
96Mb EDO ram (2 simms, one Dimm )
VIA MVP3 based motherboard (TMC AI5VG+ v1.2)
RivaTNT2 M64 based Creative Blaster graphics card
I have recently enabled VIA IDE DMA support in my kernel config, which is
experimental in 2.2.14. Also, the innards of the case are quite warm. This
doesn't seem vastly more than normal though. (Just don't touch the TNT2!!)
Cheers then,
Craig Andrews

Life would be so much easier if we
could just look at the source code.
