Back in the day (1996?) I remember I used a book called "Computing" or
something like that by one P. M. Heathcote. It was aimed at A Level, so
pretty good I suppose, although I didn't use it much due to A Level
Computing being so darn easy (I'm not trying to be flippant here).
If you're serious I would recommend buying some more advanced
(e.g. undergraduate level) texts on subjects that you find interesting in
the course. For example, if you like architecture and assembly (I do :)
I would recommend getting a somewhat stronger book on it. You might not
read it all in one go, but if you carry on to study computers at a higher
level you will have something to start from. Obviously you will need to
try and keep to your syllabus, but I find that learning about something
you find interesting is a lot more fun than something you don't.
