Re: [Sheflug] linux on an ageing laptop?

Why say no? Its a challenge ;-)

There are a few 'Linux on a floppy' distros, some even include X! My
personal fave is TomsRTBT, but I don't think it includes minicom. Try
mulinux (written with greek character mu, something like a 'u'. You know
what I mean, anyway). You can have X or not, and a development kit. It's
pretty comprehensive as tiny distros go.

I have a CD full of them somewhere, I'll try and dig it out. Shouldn't be
much of a download, though.

Here are a few URLs:

MuLinux: http://sunsite.auc.dk/mulinux/
TomsRTBT: http://www.toms.net/rb/
Pocket Linux: http://pocket-linux.coven.vmh.net/

Out of these, I have seen mulinux running perfectly well on a laptop (IBM,
I think) with X and everything, so that should see you. Installed on a
HDD too, none of this RAMdisk stuff.

I have attempted a Linux install on my laptop (386 sx 20, 2Mb RAM) to no
avail. I even went back to a distro based on kernel 1.0.13 (or something
like that) and that wouldn't go! Hope you have more luck!

Life would be so much easier if we
could just look at the source code.
