[Sheflug] Webcache/Proxy

 Hi all.

I'm going to be helping our IT chap at work set up a Webcache running
Squid at work (yes, me the man who broke his mouse the other night...:-)
and I was wondering what partitioning schemes you guys suggest -
especially the sysadmins out there.

The server to be used has 512Mb physical RAM and 3x 9GB SCSI drives
(possibly run in RAID 5, but I don't like that idea too much), and there
may be a smaller drive used for / .

The machine will be running Squid (with logging and monitoring tools
like Calamaris etc), and DNS (more than likely djbDNS by D.J. Bernstein
- http://cr.yp.to/ ). I doubt many other services will be provided from
this machine.

Current user count is around 70, although room to double that would be
good. Web useage is pretty heavy ('fraid I don't have traffic counts at
the moment).

Any suggestions on tweaking for performance would be handy.

Also, how would we go about increasing the number of file handles
available? Is this going to be an issue, or does it only kick in on
massive systems?

  Cheers,

 Baz.
