OK... try the easy way.  See if you've got lsof installed on your
system; it will tell you any open files (including sockets, etc -
*everything* is a file to Unix) and what's got them open.  I find it
invaluable for finding out why ports I don't know about are open.  If
possible, compile yourself a copy from known good sources and keep it
offline somewhere - it's a great tool for diagnosing cracked systems :)
