'i' or 'INS' to enter insert mode
'ESC' to go to command mode
'dd' deletes a line to cut buffer
'yy' copys a line
'p' pastes the line after the cursor
':w RET' saves
':w filename RET' saves as
':q' quits
':wq' or ':x' saves and exits

In insert mode all keys work as expected, in command mode they do fun
stuff.
