I don't think so; most of what I do in Emacs _cannot_ be done in Gedit
or Kedit. Some of that (reading mail or news) can't be done in vi,
either, but vi still has a lot of tricks up its sleeve, and if I
didn't vastly prefer VM and Gnus over any alternative MUAs, I could be
comfortable without Emacs if I had a modern vi.
And remember, I don't even know (for vi) which keys yank and which pop
off the top of my head! I do know that with a bit of practice it
would be sufficient to my needs.
