Hmmm... P200MMX was the box I used for a year. It only had 32
megs (maybe the comment on memory effects could go on the thread about
MHz?), which meant it thrashed the swap partition, thus turning things
slow. This only happened when I was processing data, all the other stuff
(latex, scilab, compilations, editors...) ran at an appropriate speed.
Since the PCI bus was knackered and I could only use a ISA VGA card, I
was forced to use the console. And it was actually quite a lot of fun.
Then I came across money and got myself a K7, but that's another
story...

It tend to produce rather interesting results with my documents:
first run, and you get 47 latex errors. 2nd run, and you get 33 (no
changes). Besides, lyx is actively developed. You have to put up with
XForms, but that is just cosmetics.
