Re: [Sheflug] Networking Linux Workstations

I'm firstly surprised you can do such a thing in KDE! That's quite cunning,
not a feature I noticed, although I'm a GNOMEr (for the moment!). My advice
would be to check the samba config first: obviously, it needs the same
workgroup name, etc., as the rest of the network. It would be useful to make
sure you can ping Windows machines you are trying to browse, then try using
smbclient to see if you can actually get Samba to talk to them. Can't
remember the options to smbclient, but I think you can -L to list the
services on a machine. If smbclient shows *any* sign of being able to talk to
other machines, then it's a Konq thing, and the only thing I can suggest
then is to check and re-check the config there too.

As for Pop/IMAP, go through your /etc/inetd.conf file - there will probably
be handlers for pop / imap in there, and they'll probably be on lines
starting with '#'. Remove the # to get them working. You'll also need to
then restart the computer for the change to take affect, or type
'killall -HUP inetd' at a root prompt. That should at least allow you to
connect to the local machine, you may then need to setup any configuration
files the pop /imap handlers need, although often this isn't necessary.

Cheers,

Alex.
