'Cos you get to choose options (irq, great for isa; duplex mode, etc., all
sorts of things), you get to turn the hardware on and off, and you don't
lose anything. Takes a bit more work to do it in the first place, but I
firmly believe in compiling as much as possible as modules. Everything, in
fact*.
