No, I build tarballs using egcs 2.91.66. I don't use debian (I have a Suse 
box that's soon going to be blown away and have slack reinstated on it :) I 
rarely use snapshots as well unless I need them, which isn't often.

I think its a case of it might work, but don't complain if it doesn't :) 
Linus doesn't seem to hold 2.96 (or rather Redhat at the moment) in high 
regard.
