[Sheflug] printing post cable modem

The short story is that I can't.

Since attaching to a cable modem lots of things work
a lot better but printing isn't one of them. I suspect
that somehow my printer has been reconfigured as a network
printer but it isn't working as such. And if it were to,
perhaps the whole world could start sending stuff to my
printer unless and until I get some kind of firewall up...

bash# hostname
pc-62-31-17-145-sh.blueyonder.co.uk
bash# ls /var/spool/lpd/lp
cfA000pc-62-31-17-145-sh.blueyonder.co.uk filter
cfA001pc-62-31-17-145-sh.blueyonder.co.uk general.cfg
dfA000pc-62-31-17-145-sh.blueyonder.co.uk postscript.cfg
dfA001pc-62-31-17-145-sh.blueyonder.co.uk textonly.cfg
bash# lpq
Warning: no daemon present
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
1st root 0 ... 625 bytes
2nd root 1 ... 625 bytes
bash# printtool&

Edit Local Printer Entry

Names lp
Spool Directory /var/spool/lpd/lp
File Limit in Kb (0=no limit) 0
Printer Device /dev/lp0
Input Filter *auto* - PostScript

when I try to print an ASCII test page I get the
following error message:

Error printing test page to queue lp

Error reason: lpr: connect: Connection refused
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.

When I use the menu to restart the printer daemon,
nothing appears to happen and certainly I cannot print
a test page.

I managed to get printing started without a permanent
network connection simply by using printtool but it
seems I'll need to dig deeper than that now.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Matt.
